Here are some free books that I have downloaded and read:
- Cory Doctorow’s book Eastern Standard Tribe was the first novel I read on my computer. His other novels are linked here.
- The novelette A Colder War by Charles Stross is really good.
- The novel Accelerando by Charles Stross is very well written and has some interesting ideas about the singularity. It’s reasonably scientifically accurate too.
- Blindsight by Peter Watts is a hard sci-fi novel which has some interesting concepts about thought processes.
- Julian Dibbell wrote a book about the LambdaMoo online rape. He has recently released it freely, he writes about the difficulty in freely releasing a book at this link and the free book My Tiny Life is available at this link.
Baen has a whole slew of good books online: http://www.baen.com/library/
They’re not really “free”, but free enough so you can download them and read them at your leisure. And they come in different formats.
Author Eric Flint is also quite vocal about the whole project and a staunch enemy of DRM, see his essays on: http://www.baens-universe.com/authors/Eric_Flint
